Why Storytelling Will Continue to Dominate Social Media in 2023

There has been a definite shift from just short-form and straightforward videos to the focus and the rise of the storytelling trend in content on social media. Brands and content creators add more value to their content by not just giving a visual representation of a story but also using voiceovers to really present their content.

Narrative is key

There’s tons of content online in the form of posts, reels, or TikTok videos that include personal and candid stories from content creators. It comes in the form of serious stories with deep talks or maybe even some funny or heartwarming realizations.

Something that may have existed even before this year was the “storytime” trend in TikTok. Content creators made TikToks that gave viewers a story about almost anything and everything with this trend. Influencers would narrate an experience (real or not) that included visuals, text, or animations.

People usually tend to gravitate towards these stories because of how candid and honest these content creators can be. The topics for these narratives may vary, but one thing is for sure - relatability is crucial to hooking your audience and keeping them engaged.

Pro Tip: Since these types of content are continuing to be popular, brands and marketers can also take note of the format to be able to connect more with their audience. List down your brand story and form a clear narrative from it. Make sure to tie the narrative to your service or product!

The POV

POV videos are everywhere on TikTok. These scenes are from a first-person perspective, placing the viewer in the middle of all the action. A content creator usually makes a POV video of a day in the life or a fictional situation of a character.

This format is also one way to easily connect to the audience because the text in the videos already set the expectation for what the video will be about. Brands can use this format to help push their product/service to help entice possible consumers.

Pro Tip: By properly laying out a scenario for a POV video, your audience will quickly understand the story/narrative that you are trying to show. After laying it out, you can tie your desired scenario back to your product or service!

Brand x Storytelling

Brands should take note of these specific trends and remember that storytelling trends can also be a great opportunity to help strengthen your brand story. By integrating these storytelling formats, you can also create more value for consumers by making content more personalized.

Using the storytelling format can also help more of the right audience on social media really get to know and understand your brand better.
