What TV Shows Get Right On Social Media

The rise of streaming platforms has propelled TV shows to the forefront of media, offering widespread accessibility and convenience for viewers. This disruption of traditional viewing patterns has made TV shows even more dominant in the media landscape.

Platforms like HBO and Netflix are leading networks in the TV show space, leveraging their social media savviness. But how exactly do these networks continue to be amongst the leading networks of the TV space?

In this article, we look into some of the best social media practices these networks have done that marketers definitely need to take note of.

HBO - Timely & Engaging Content

With White Lotus and Succession, HBO has continued to also tune in to their fans by not following a typical pattern for promoting their shows online.

HBO doesn’t shy away from creating content that is derived from their shows. They look into what their audiences think of the show online and respond with content that feeds into their opinions. They also don’t take any jokes too seriously as their posts show that they are also definitely in on the joke.

HBO also does a good job in creating posts that are timely and engaging for their viewers and audiences. These posts include reels of certain scenes with captions that emphasize them more for viewers to be hooked on.

NETFLIX - Mastering Teasing the Audience & Behind the scene content

Netflix’s content consists of sneak peeks to new shows and new seasons of certain tv series. With shows like Beef, Netflix also has behind-the-scenes content with cast and crew discussing either production or other aspects of a series that viewers might not notice.

Since Netflix usually drops episodes all in one go, they usually only release content for new shows or their shows that eventually become popular.

Like HBO, Netflix makes posts that aren’t too serious. They post about funny scenes from some of their shows and use this to entice people to watch their shows.

Netflix also directly responds to fans across social media. They put an emphasis on engaging with their fans through comments and replies.

More than just networks

Through these marketing strategies on social media, these networks have proven to be more than just platforms for new shows. These networks are also known in their industries because they have been effective in forming fandoms and communities that promote their shows to more people that would’ve otherwise not been aware of their shows.

Viewers also end up going back to certain episodes or rewatching shows because of the content made out of it. They look more into certain details and discuss certain aspects of their favorite shows online.

With more and more content becoming easily accessible and “bite-sized”, these networks have shown why their series can still be an exciting form of entertainment. They continue to innovate and stay aware of who their audiences are or how they might look like, thereby staying relevant as they should.
